Your First Game in 5 Steps
- Open the Turtle layout. It is the friendliest starting shape.
- Look at the board. Most tiles are arranged in a flat turtle shape with a raised dome on top.
- Click any tile that highlights when you hover. That is a playable tile.
- Find another tile with the same picture and click it. Both tiles vanish.
- Keep matching identical pairs until the board is empty.
The Only Rule You Need First
A tile can be selected only if nothing is on top of it and at least one side (left or right) is open. That is the whole rule. Everything else—strategy, scoring, layout choice—builds on top of it. Full rules are in our rules guide, but for your first game, this single sentence is enough.
What to Expect, With Real Numbers
Your first Turtle will probably take 10 to 15 minutes, and you may need the Hint or Shuffle button once or twice. That is normal, not failure. For reference, our measured average on Turtle is 4 minutes—that is where regular players land after a couple of weeks, not where you should start. A realistic progression:
- Game 1: 10–15 minutes, one or two hints. You are learning the tiles.
- Game 3: under 8 minutes. Matches start popping out before you look for them.
- Game 10: 5–6 minutes, no hints. You are at the medium-tier average already.
Around halfway through a game you may hit a position where no matches seem available. That is normal too. Use the Hint button (it highlights a valid pair) or the Shuffle button (it rearranges the remaining tiles). Neither ends your game; they are there to keep things moving.
