How do you find the dora tiles?
Dora come from a stack of extra tiles called the dead wall. The dealer flips one tile there — the dora indicator — and the tile that comes next in order becomes dora:
- Number tiles: the next number in the same suit
- Winds: East, South, West, North, looping around
- Dragons: White, Green, Red, looping around
- After 9 comes 1, so a 9 indicator makes 1s dora
- Many tables add red fives (akadora) that count as dora
Do dora count as yaku?
No. Dora add points, but they never make a hand legal to win. You still need at least one yaku — a real pattern like riichi or all simples — or you can’t declare the win no matter how many dora you hold.
